Amazing versions of the UAZ “loaf”

The UAZ “loaf” or “tadpole”, if we talk about an on-board vehicle, is 60 years old since the first car rolled off the factory assembly line.

It is quite possible that this is not the last anniversary in her lifetime that she celebrates. Since its premiere, the car has sold in huge numbers, not only in the standard version, but in a variety of small and modified versions. There are many “loaves” that were made in a single copy, despite the fact that they were built not only in the USSR, but also in foreign countries.

UAZ-450 prototype. The appearance of the “loaf”, the design of which was developed by Vladimir Aryamov, looked very bold for the 50s. The very first test sample created, with a special design of the front part, where there was a large letter “U” in the middle part of the grille, looked somewhat pretentious compared to the more modest and harmonious production versions.

UAZ-452DP. This version, which featured a right-hand steering wheel, was never mass-produced. But there are now a number of converted vehicles in the UK that have been modified locally, including one dump truck.

Sample with three axes. A minibus with three axles, made according to a 6x4 wheel arrangement, the capacity of which was 18 seats, was created back in the 60s, even in the absence of a state assignment and plan. Due to the fact that its creation was done “on its own initiative,” the vehicle did not have an index, but there was an onboard truck of a similar design.

TSK-2-08. UAZs served several dozen repair plants throughout the USSR. They created their own versions of the “loaves,” which resulted in their transformation from a chassis with a cab, called a “tadpole,” into buses for transporting passengers and cargo. There was also a standard factory design for this - TS-17144. In contrast, some enterprises developed pickup trucks with a double cab, which the Ulyanovsk plant did not offer at that time. For example, the Krasnodar plant produced TSK-2-08, and many other enterprises also produced analogues.

Budyonnovsky option. Some local factories made attempts to create “restyled” models. The machine-building plant in Budennovsk came forward with this most boldly, making a model based on the UAZ-3303. But this car was left at the prototype level.

Parking road train based on UAZ . In Moscow and many other large cities, recreational road trains were made on the basis of the RAF vehicle. But to create a similar car, I decided to use UAZ.

A reanimobile from Tamro based on a UAZ. UAZ-based ambulances also became famous throughout the Soviet Union. A special model of an intensive care vehicle with an increased roof height was produced jointly with the TAMRO company from Finland, and became a structural analogue of the RAF and Volga after modifications were carried out in this country.

Italian UAZ-Kemper. At the same time, Martorelli was actively exporting “loaves” to Italy. Upon arrival at the site, wheels and interior elements, power plants were replaced, and sometimes they were repainted. Special companies created campers based on them. There were other foreign versions, created on a separate chassis with a module for living.

UAZ-3972. The appearance of an updated version of the “loaf” could have taken place back in the 90s. This model was created on a chassis unified with the large SUV UAZ-3172. But the plant at that time had completely different tasks, so all these prototypes remained just that.

"Medea". Ambulance vehicle produced by the All-terrain vehicle cooperative from Georgia. Its feature was a three-axle design with all-wheel drive. Several of these vehicles were assembled from decommissioned UAZs and reassembled parts.

IZH-039. One of the first armored vehicles assembled at the plant in Izhevsk based on the UAZ-3303-01, mass-produced.
