Buy a van on the HINO-500 chassis
HINO cars are of high quality, thanks to exclusively Japanese assembly.
They are well adapted for Russian conditions and are provided with a manufacturer’s warranty, service and original spare parts. Hino 500 is a model of medium size and carrying capacity. It is capable of carrying cargo up to 8 to 12 tons.
Depending on the type of cargo you will transport, the following vans can be installed on the basis of HINO trucks:
- Manufactured goods
- Isothermal
- Sandwich van
- Van with awning
Manufactured goods are used to transport goods that are not affected by the ambient temperature and do not require a hygienic certificate. The main objectives of such a van are protection from precipitation and from exposure to direct sunlight.
Isothermal and sandwich vans are designed for transporting products that require maintaining a stable temperature - deep-frozen products and perishable goods. The van body is insulated with foam plastic with a thickness of 40 to 100 mm.
Isothermal and sandwich models can be used in any weather conditions and at any temperature.
For goods with a certain temperature regime, the cargo HINO 500 is equipped with a refrigeration and heating unit (HOU). Such a vehicle is called a refrigerator.
offers cooling equipment from Thermoking, Carrier and other manufacturers for temperature conditions:
- cooling from 0 to +5
- freezing from -10 to +5
- and deep freezing from -20 to +5
You can choose either a one-piece design or a van with an awning - the second one will be much cheaper. And thanks to the lightweight design, the vehicle's carrying capacity increases.

Since 2013, a cooperation agreement has been in force between the HINO distributor and the representative office of the German manufacturer of autonomous automotive heating systems EBERSPACHER in Russia, allowing HINO customers to receive a high-quality product, as well as be confident in the high installation culture of HINO dealership employees who have been trained by EBERSPACHER.
One of the main types of products from EBERSPACHER Climate Control Systems is an autonomous heating system for the engine and vehicle interior. Hydronic liquid engine heaters and Airtronic air heaters have long been known on the market and cover a wide range of applications.
It is very easy to set the most comfortable temperature in the car interior and control the operation of the preheater using control devices. Products of control devices of the EasyStart family supplied to the Russian market include devices from a simple timer (EasyStart Timer, EasyStart Select) to remote controls (EasyStart Remote, EasyStart Remote Plus) and GSM modules (EasyStart Call, EasyStart Text).
EBERSPACHER liquid heaters operate independently of the engine and have the double advantage of preheating the vehicle interior and the engine.
The heater heats the fluid in the engine cooling system. The EBERSPACHER's own heater pump circulates coolant through a small cooling circle into which the interior heat exchanger is connected. An additional heater function allows you to autonomously start the interior heater fan when a certain temperature is reached. And in summer, the EBERSPACHER Hydronic heater can easily be converted into an independent ventilation system.
All HINO Series 500 models are equipped with EBERSPACHER Hydronic M - D10W liquid heaters.

When receiving a start signal from the control device, the heater performs the following actions:
- Checking all heater systems and components for operability and diagnosing vehicle battery charging.
- The combustion chamber blower (pre-ventilation of the combustion chamber), the ceramic glow pin (preheating), and the fuel pump (supply fuel to the ceramic glow pin) are turned on.
- The process of ignition of the fuel-air mixture occurs and a flame is formed.
- The coolant is heated due to heat transfer from the heater heat exchanger.
- Depending on the heat needs, the heater is adjusted in several stages: maximum, low.
- Due to the circulation of heated coolant, the engine and cabin interior are warmed up (heat transfer from the coolant through the vehicle heat exchanger).

Market fever is forcing carriers to look for the most efficient transport at an affordable price. The “Japanese” and, in particular, the Hino 500 meet these criteria. The car was taken for a test drive DALNOBOI.ORG
Six modifications of this series with a total weight of 17,500 kg are supplied to the Russian market. Of these, we chose for acquaintance one of the most popular in Russia - the GH8JPTA-QHR chassis (model 1826) with an insulated Techpro van and a Carrier refrigeration unit with a loading capacity of 8800 kg.
“The 500th” surrounded by competitors
Hino 500s are supplied to Russia equipped with an air-suspended driver's seat (the Japanese are content with forward-backward and up-down adjustments).
The Hino 500 series is in a densely competitive environment of trucks made in Japan, Korea, China and Russia.
There are also European classmates with whom we also have to “butt heads” in the struggle for the choice of carriers. Nevertheless, the demand for this equipment is stable even in difficult economic conditions. For example, in 2013, sales of new Hino 500 in Russia amounted to 708 units.
or 32% of all commercial vehicles of this brand.
Last year, sales of the 500 series increased to 967 units, which exceeded a third (36%) of all Hinos sold through the official dealer network. Moreover, in terms of the number of registrations in the traffic police, the Japanese brand took sixth place after Scania, MAN, Hyundai, Volvo Trucks and Mercedes-Benz. 2572 units were shipped to customers.
note
new Hino trucks, which amounted to 7% of all foreign brands with a gross weight of over 3.5 tons. Last year, 4,599 used Hino vehicles were registered in the Russian Federation. In the global market, Russian sales are in 12th place after China, but in terms of quantity they are close to fifth place. As they say, it’s not evening yet. Total for the period 2009-2014. 8595 units were sold in the Russian Federation.
Hino is brand new, and taking into account the results of the first quarter of 2020 - 9000 units.
What is the digital index?
The raised cabin provides convenient access to the diesel engine for its maintenance.
The Hino 500 of the current model range is not a freshly baked product, but a time-tested product, and this is its strength.
Since 2013, the updated version has been supplied with Euro-4 engines with an EGR system, without AdBlue, which is capricious in cold weather. The design of trucks imported to the Russian Federation is adapted for cold climates, overload, bad roads and low-quality fuel. The service mileage has been increased for them (now it is 30 thousand).
km), a high-volume fuel tank (300 l) and a frame are used, which allows the installation of dozens of body superstructure options.
Currently, Russian carriers put about four dozen bodies on the Hino 500. The most popular of them are an isothermal and manufactured goods van, an onboard platform and a platform with a CMU. Tarpaulin “sides” are less common, and tow trucks are even less common.
In Russia, the Hino 500 series is represented by trucks with a gross weight of 12 tons (GD line), 17.5 tons (GH) and 26 tons (FM).
For the test, the “golden mean” was chosen - a 17.5-ton GH, which passed two-year operational tests in different transport companies on real routes with a full load in non-stop mode, i.e. all year round.
Made in Japan design
The driver's work area is organized according to the principle of dominance of reasonable sufficiency.
In appearance, the Hino 500 is 100% “Japanese”, and that’s true. Only one type of all-metal cabin is available for it: with a low roof, three seats and one berth.
The low roof is convenient for installing refrigeration units on refrigerators, but is a bit cramped for changing clothes while standing. The middle seat is clearly superfluous: two drivers in such cars do not go on a trip, but for a forwarder one seat is enough.
It would be more logical to see a tray for small items, a mini-fridge or a closed storage box instead of the middle seat. But there is no other configuration for the Russian Federation. In general, the interior design corresponds to the concept of Roundish & donut cabin, which means “rounded and flat space.”
The base color of the cab is white, all steel ones must be ordered through dealers.
Important
A year ago, only a non-adjustable rear air suspension became available for the Hino 500, but now an adjustable one has also appeared. The GH version tested, with a gross weight of 17.5 tonnes, uses rear springs without shock absorbers. This must be taken into account during operation. If the car is unloaded, then incorrectly selected speed and load can cause it to “goat”.
There was no front air suspension. At the front, a dependent suspension is used on longitudinal semi-elliptic springs, with hydraulic telescopic shock absorbers. There is also a stabilizer bar.
The leaf spring suspension comes with a Hino MF06 6-speed gearbox, while the air suspension comes with an Eaton ES-11109 9-speed gearbox.
Eastern accents of the ley line
From the driver's side there is free access to attachments and electrical wiring.
The Hino 500 GH has a curb weight of 8,700 kg and a payload capacity with a refrigerated van of 8,800 kg.
The technically permissible load on the front axle is set at 6500 kg, on the rear axle – at 11000 kg. These weight parameters apply to a vehicle with a length of 9460 mm, a width of 2600 mm and a height (with superstructure) of 3700 mm.
To drive the Hino 500, only one engine option is used: the Hino J08E-UR 6-cylinder diesel engine with a displacement of 7684 cm3. It meets Euro 4 standards, has a Common Rail injection system, turbocharging with intercooling and an intercooler.
The engine produces a maximum power of 260 hp. at 2500 rpm and maximum torque of 794 Nm at 1500 rpm. At the same time, the main advantage of the power unit is low fuel consumption.
The Eaton nine-speed transmission has what's known as a high-ratio "slider" transmission, making it easier to get started with a load. But the test version has its own transmission - a 6-speed manual Hino MF06 with manual control. It has synchronized gears from second to sixth, and the final drive ratio is 4.875.
Warranty and maintenance costs
A full-size spare tire is mounted in the extended rear overhang.
The market value of the tested Hino 500 GH8JPTA with a refrigerated van from Tekhpro LLC, equipped with an Eberspächer liquid autonomous heater, a tachograph, a Carrier S750R refrigeration unit, a temperature recorder and an autonomous BAR1500S2 tail lift is 4.5 million rubles. This already includes recycling fees and VAT. Proper operation helps preserve such investments.
The warranty for the new Hino 500 is 24 months or 100 thousand km, whichever comes first. In our case, the van superstructure, refrigeration unit and tail lift are also provided with a two-year manufacturer's warranty.
The service interval for a car is set at 30 thousand km, but the first maintenance costs about 20 thousand rubles. carried out with a mileage of 5 thousand km. Further changes of oils and operating fluids are carried out according to regulations and cost from 20 thousand rubles. Every 60 thousand
Advice
km, replacing special lubricant in the hubs takes an additional 5 thousand rubles. The Hino plant does not recommend that transport workers use specific brands of oils; it only indicates the viscosity, for example, 75W90.
Among Russian Hino 500 owners, the most popular engine and transmission oils and lubricants are Shell, Castrol, and Mobil.
Features of operation
Front dependent suspension on semi-elliptic springs with shock absorbers and anti-roll bar.
Unlike Russian and European classmates, Japanese trucks have a number of features that must be observed. Let's say the Hino 500 has a serviced suspension.
Depending on operating conditions, it needs to be lubricated every 5-10 thousand km, otherwise the pins and bushings will sour. There is another feature: when parked, drivers like to turn on the engine brake - so that the engine warms up faster and pumps heat into the cabin.
But in this case, carbon deposits go into the EGR system valve and shorten its service life. In the event of a breakdown, it is useless to go to the cargo disassembly: firstly, there are few “Japanese” there, and secondly, the 500 series has its own spare parts. Even from other Hino models, original parts do not fit.
With a competent approach and following recommendations, operation can be very long. This is confirmed by vehicles that traveled a million kilometers to the Russian Federation.
Reviews from transport workers
The Hino 500 has a very reliable engine. It works without strain thanks to the successful selection of power and torque. The engine is not sensitive to fuel quality and even digests diesel fuel purchased in remote regions at untested gas stations. There are no problems with the injection pump and fuel injectors. The car is easy to maintain.
A minimum of electronics and a simple design allow you to perform maintenance on your own, which saves on visits to certified service stations. Drum brake linings last 100 thousand km, and even more if out-of-town flights predominate. The ABS systems and especially the ASR systems deserve kind words.
The standard stove is quite efficient, but customers prefer to install an additional liquid heater or air heater.
Personal impressions
The steered wheels rotate at a large angle, which provides the truck with enviable maneuverability.
Structurally, the Hino 500 is really designed without any fuss, but in the Japanese way it is scrupulous and reliable. Ease of use lies in the details.
For example, the aluminum running boards are molded to provide maximum clearance for dirt to clear off your shoes. The handrails are at an acceptable height, making entry and exit no problem. The steering column is adjustable in two directions, which increases the adaptability of the workplace.
The decoration and equipment of the cabin is almost spartan: the driver has at his disposal only two shallow plastic boxes under the ceiling, but with a lid. Hooks for clothes are thoughtfully placed in the corners. There is a window in the rear of the cabin. On the one hand, it is convenient for viewing when there is a low side platform.
note
On the other hand, it is useless when installing a van, and it also cools down the sleeping area faster in cold weather.
With a wheelbase of 5.51 m, the car stretches from bumper to bumper by almost 9.5 m. The front overhang is quite short, but the rear overhang reaches 2.55 m. This must be taken into account when maneuvering: the turning radius on the wheels is 9.8 m, and in external dimensions - 10.5 m.
Thanks to the large steering angle of the front wheels, power steering and decent visibility, the car is easy to drive. There are no complaints about the engine and gearbox, as well as the engine brake and main drum brakes.
The car is capable of reaching a maximum speed of 100 km/h, but such agility in urban environments is usually not required.
Opposite the right passenger seat behind a plastic cover is the fuse box.
The capabilities of the Hino 500 GH are expanded due to the standard power take-off on the gearbox. Since 2014, it has been possible to retrofit the chassis with a towing device for working with a two-axle trailer.
The presence of imported Dunlop SP 362 tires size 295/80 R22.5 eliminates the need to change them before the tread wears out and provides ground clearance under the differential of 245 mm. In conditions of year-round operation, special attention must be paid to anti-corrosion treatment of metal parts.
Otherwise, traces of rust may appear even where you don't expect to see them.
Russian owners speak of the Hino 500 GH as a truck that is designed to work without downtime. For some of them, a revelation was the free inspection of the car in the first months after purchase, high-quality branded service and fast delivery of original spare parts.
It’s no wonder that eventually the skepticism goes away and the Hino 500 GH gives the impression of an unpretentious workhorse. The same one that is capable of delivering various cargoes, from building materials and household appliances to perishable food and fragile antiques.
If handled correctly, the Hino 500 GH will regularly carry profits and not be bothered by breakdowns, and for the owner of a transport business this is perhaps the most important thing.
