Rostselmash will present highly efficient agricultural machines to Saratov farmers
On August 13 and 14, a large-scale “Field Day” will be held at the experimental fields on the bypass road between the Solnechny and Yubileiny microdistricts. Saratov-Agro 2020.” The Rostselmash company is taking part in this significant event for the region’s agro-industrial complex. The leading manufacturer of agricultural machinery will present a wide range of manufactured agricultural machinery and equipment for rural areas at the expo site.
At the company’s stand, farmers and exhibition guests will be able to get a detailed look at the models popular among agricultural producers.
Among them is a wide range of powerful and high-performance tractors:
— RSM 340; — RSM 2375; — RSM 3435; - DT 570.
Farmers will also be able to get detailed advice on the Rostselmash RSM 2375 tractor, which since April 2020 have increased warranty coverage - 2 years, or 2,000 engine hours (regardless of the production date).
At the Rostselmash exposition, a grain harvester will be presented - ACROS 585 with a universal rowless harvester of the Sun Stream series, designed to maximize the productivity of the combine when harvesting sunflowers. Also on site will be a wide range of trailed and mounted equipment that has long proven itself: roll and square balers, a grain thrower and a fertilizer spreader.
“We have been working with the Rostselmash company not long ago; based on feedback from colleagues, we have heard a lot about the high productivity and reliability of agricultural machines. This year we made a decision and purchased two Rostselmash RSM 2375 tractors. The equipment meets all the declared characteristics. I would also like to note the ease of its maintenance. I will not leave the official dealer of Rostselmash, the Agrosoyuz-Market company, without attention, thank you for the responsibility and efficiency, we were satisfied with the work. We will definitely visit the field day and the Rostselmash stand,” said the chief engineer of Avangard-Agro, Eduard Akbulatovich Ibrashov.
“By tradition, I visit the exhibition every year, the quality of Rostselmash equipment is excellent, the whole team performs its functions perfectly, I am very glad that I have this company’s equipment on my farm,” added the head of the peasant (farm) farm Agalarov Musaib Tagirovich.
During all days of the exhibition, a series of meetings with partners, heads of district administrations, agricultural enterprises, as well as consultations for farm specialists on the most optimal choice of a line of equipment, taking into account specific agricultural technological conditions, and effective settings of agricultural machines that ensure their maximum productivity are planned at the Rostselmash stand.
Rostselmash develops tractor production in Rostov
For the RSM 2375, they provided the possibility of aggregation with any implements, simplifying maintenance in the field.
Trend of the beginning of the century - screwdriver assembly
To emphasize the scale of the transformation, Rostselmash recalls that the RSM 2375 has North American, or rather Canadian, roots. In 2007, the New Commonwealth (an industrial union uniting several manufacturers of special equipment, including Rostselmash) bought the Canadian company Buhler Industries Inc.
which produced a wide range of tractors under the VERSATILE brand. In terms of agroclimatic conditions, Canada is similar to Russia, so the equipment created there is excellent for use in Russian conditions. In 2009, Rostselmash established large-unit assembly of the popular VERSATILE 2375 model in Rostov. It should be noted that at that time the development of local production was inappropriate, and the management of Rostselmash was clearly aware of this.
Economic crisis as a “window of opportunity”
The company directly associates the active development of Russian tractor production with the situation that has changed the domestic agricultural machinery market. In 2020, the unfavorable geopolitical situation contributed to a sustained devaluation of the ruble. The price of vehicle kits produced at the Canadian site of the Rostselmash group of companies has increased significantly. As a result, the competitiveness of products produced at Russian enterprises has increased. In addition, the Russian government began to subsidize farmers purchasing domestic special equipment.
The new principles of state support are fixed in the well-known Resolution No. 1432. According to this document, agricultural producers purchase machines at a 15–30% discount, and the state reimburses the difference to Russian machine builders.
By 2020, the volume of these subsidies has increased significantly. Thus, in 2013, according to Resolution No. 1432, manufacturers were paid 400 million rubles, in 2014 - already 1.6 billion rubles. In 2020, the industry received support of 5.2 billion rubles, in 2016 - by 11.2 billion rubles, and in 2017 the volume of subsidies exceeded 15 billion rubles. New prospects opened up for the development of Russian mechanical engineering, and the management of Rostselmash set a course for creating tractor production in Rostov.
The company steadily follows its own import substitution strategy. Since 2020, Rostselmash has localized 15 components (1099 parts), and projects have been drawn up for the localization of another 54 components that are used in production. By the way, a tractor is considered Russian if 14 technological operations are performed in Russia, that is, Rostselmash’s initiative requirements for localization turned out to be higher than the state ones. To achieve such indicators, the enterprise created additional welding and mechanical assembly areas, completely reconstructed and re-equipped the assembly building with an area of more than 6 thousand square meters. m.
Development of full-fledged production
To test localization processes, Rostselmash chose the 2375 tractor as the initial model. “This is a universal machine that is suitable for the vast majority of farms in Russia (on average, according to Rosstat, the land area of farms in Russia is 7.5 thousand hectares per organization and 200 hectares per farm), notes Maxim Nakhabo, director of the marketing department of Rostselmash. — The use of electronics in this model is minimal, which makes the tractor easy to operate and accessible to a wide range of consumers.
Full production began in May 2020 (50 units were assembled then). The share of Russian components gradually increased, and the options partially changed. By the end of the year, more than 160 energy-rich tractors were produced at the Rostov site.
The company recalls that some promising “local” innovations were suggested by clients. Thus, for the updated tractor, Rostselmash specialists provided the possibility of aggregation with any implements and simplified the maintenance of the machine in the field (for example, purging the radiator and filters).
Optimization for price and quality
The designers had to solve new problems. The transition to components and assemblies of domestic production was supposed to reduce the cost of the finished machine by 20–30%. In addition, it was necessary to “translate” drawings and technological processes from the inch (Canadian) system to the Russian metric system. Rostselmash specialists have succeeded in achieving these and other goals related to import substitution. Thus, finding domestic suppliers of components poses a certain difficulty. There are few manufacturers in Russia, especially when it comes to agricultural machinery. Supply volumes in this industry are lower than, for example, in the automotive industry, and finding a contractor for a relatively small order is not easy.
Rostselmash solved the problem by working in two directions: it independently established the production of components and formed a pool of suppliers who offered products of the required quality. This is how the most important elements were localized: the front and rear frames, the cabin frame, brackets, hydraulic components, shafts, gears, etc. At the adjacent enterprise, the Rostov Press and Cutting Plant, metal cutting was established. We purchased Russian plastic interior and exterior parts and began producing our own glass.
Now Rostselmash assembles, welds and paints the supporting frame of the tractor, elements of its exterior, and performs cab production operations (including cutting and bending of blanks, welding, assembly and painting). In Rostov, the engine unit, axles, axles, transmissions, and attachments are mounted and painted. Electrical and hydraulic equipment systems are installed here.
In 2020, the localization level of the RSM 2375 tractor was 70%. This means that the bulk of its components are produced in Russia. The geography of supplies of the largest parts is illustrated by a poster that hangs in the tractor workshop: the map of the country shows 14 cities where parts for the Rostov tractor are produced. Thus, the development of import-substituting production of Rostselmash made it possible to solve an important state task of creating a high-level domestic component base.
Plans for the future: our own transmission and tractor plant
The group of companies is currently implementing a joint project with the Japanese transmission manufacturer Okubo Gear. Rostselmash purchased documentation for a manual gearbox for model 2375. Production in Rostov will start in October. Localization of this unit will take place in three stages: organization of assembly, production of cast body parts, and then a full assembly cycle with the production of gears and shafts. According to the plan, production will be completely localized by 2021.
Until recently, Okubo Gear supplied Rostselmash with about 700 transmissions per year for RSM 2375 and RSM 2400. Obviously, the implementation of the project will allow the company to reduce production costs, load capacity and develop its own component base, and deepen localization. It is also important that new jobs will appear at the enterprise.
In the medium term, the company plans to cover the needs in all segments of tractors, soil cultivating and sowing equipment. To implement this program, the capabilities of one tractor workshop are no longer enough, and the Rostselmash group is building a separate specialized plant to produce the entire line of tractors. A new enterprise with a total production area of 42 thousand square meters. m will appear in Rostov on the site of an unfinished building that has stood idle for 30 years. Clearing the territory and preparing a new production facility could cost, according to various estimates, 2–3 billion rubles.
The company expects that in a few years the plant will produce 10–15 vehicles per shift on several conveyors (currently, equipment of different series is assembled on one conveyor). Presumably, the new capacities will increase production threefold.
