The Krot-OM motor cultivator was purchased back in 2003. “OM” because it was assembled at the Omsk engine-building plant named after. P. I. Baranova.

The model was developed back in the days of the USSR, throughout its production it was produced at different enterprises, while being continuously modernized. It was purchased complete with two double cutters, and also included some consumables, which I can’t remember now. The bottom photo shows a protective metal case covering the belt drive. I’ll say right away that the device is still in excellent working condition. It starts on old stocks of A-80 gasoline and M8B motor oil, works great, delivers the required power, and plows. But I would also like to note the unpleasant fact that during its operation, “Mole-OM” shook its owner’s nerves a lot.

After purchasing the motor cultivator, we never contacted the warranty workshop; we managed it on our own. When servicing the Krot, the skills I acquired in my younger years while operating IZH motorcycles came in handy more than once. "Mole" turned out to have a not very remarkable quality - disgusting engine starting. Moreover, the quality shown on a still new mechanism, right after the store.

"Mole-OM" from its newest state flatly refused to start normally. The starting handle was the first to give way, and its frail starting rope broke due to frequent tugging by a man's hand. In general, the use of such a rope for the motor cultivator engine starter is stupidity and greed of the manufacturer at the same time. Against the backdrop of an obvious design miscalculation, this “Mole” starter unit ended up being unreliable and short-lived.

I had to repair the starter. The torn rope was replaced with a metal core from the clutch cable of the same IZH Jupiter, and this cable was carefully secured at the ends with screws and nuts. At one end is the starter disc, at the other is its handle. The starter has a flat spring, so assembling it is very hemorrhoidal; you have to wind this spring manually. But after assembly everything works as it should. At the same time, operational reliability increases significantly.

The next permanent problem with a motor cultivator is the carburetor. It uses a carburetor from a Soviet moped. Quite late, I realized that the real problem with the reluctant launch of the “Mole” lies precisely in this node.

For normal operation of the motor cultivator, it is necessary to keep this unit clean and adjusted. Methods for adjusting such a carburetor can be found on the Internet, but cleaning it requires removal and complete disassembly. It is best to wash the carburetor with running hot water and detergents. Subsequently, the device should be dried with a hairdryer.

Subsequently, a World Motors K60V carburetor repair kit was purchased. But it has the same problem as a number of other similar repair kits. Some of the parts simply did not fit the K60V “Mole” carburetor. Also, to ensure sufficient engine power and prevent over-enrichment of the working mixture, it is necessary to regularly wash the foam filter element of the air filter.

After a short-term use of A92 gasoline mixed with oil in the “Mole” (the proportion was gentle 16:1, according to the instructions for A80 gasoline it should be 20:1), due to overheating during operation, the piston collapsed and scuffs appeared on the cylinder walls. I had to purchase a new cylinder and a new piston with the corresponding non-repair number. Conclusion - high-octane gasoline is strictly contraindicated for motor cultivators!

The ignition system is electronic and produces a good spark. The ignition timing is at the factory setting. According to some reports, turning off a motor cultivator with a button intended for this purpose can lead to failure of the ignition system. However, this button is used normally and works fine.

Power supply system—gasoline tap is leaking. It can also make it difficult for gasoline to reach the carburetor. This is checked by removing the rubber hose from it and checking the stream of escaping gasoline. The plastic cap of the gas tank has shrunk, and to prevent loss, it has to be sealed around the perimeter with polyethylene. Electrical tape is not suitable for these purposes, as gasoline vapors will corrode it. And the drainage hole in the gas tank cap must be clean.

The drive belt has been replaced a couple of times. It pulls out at first and lacks the motor offset adjustments for tension. As a result of slipping, the belt quickly breaks down. Also, over time, cracks appear on it, and their appearance serves as a signal for replacement.

The walk-behind tractor gearbox is still working properly. It, like the engine, must be filled with oil in strict accordance with the instructions. This will give the unit the necessary resource, provided there are no defective parts in it.

The walk-behind tractor carburetor must be adjusted periodically to ensure proper operation of the mechanism. A possible cause of differences in the operation of the walk-behind tractor engine may be the carburetor. To do this, the device is disassembled, cleaned and adjusted (adjusted). So, remove the carburetor and pour gasoline out of it. Carefully separate all parts of the device (nozzle, float) for further purging and cleaning. This manipulation is performed with a special cleaner.

After cleaning, thoroughly dry all the parts and safely proceed to assembly. After assembly, adjust the carburetor for the walk-behind tractor.

We install the cleaned device using the standard gasket and secure it with nuts. Don't forget about the air filter, speed controller and gasoline supply hose.

Setting up the carburetor of a walk-behind tractor involves adjusting it. In order to adjust the carburetor yourself, you need to do the following steps:

  1. The low and full throttle screws must be tightened until they stop.
  2. Turn out the low and full throttle screws one and a half turns (we set the throttle valve in such a position that a gap of the appropriate size is formed between the base and the air duct).
  3. Start the engine and wait until it warms up.
  4. With the engine running, set the control lever to minimum speed.
  5. Achieve uninterrupted engine operation. To do this, you need to keep the idle speed to a minimum using the throttle screw.
  6. Set the idle speed to maximum using the idle screw.
  7. Set the idle speed to minimum using the throttle screw.
  8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 until continuous engine operation begins.
  9. Place the engine control lever on the gas.
  10. If an interruption occurs, unscrew the screw that regulates the quality of the mixture no more than 2.5 turns.
